BLANCA is a series of images made in Spain during February of 2020. I was there, reflecting on the aftermath of Brexit, walking the streets of expat towns on the Costa Blanca. Much of the coastline had been hit by storm Gloria in January, the tide had swollen up and over the beaches and promenades, washing them away and flooding the nearby streets. These images document what was left behind; a weird and apocalyptic landscape, with broken shops, abandoned holiday homes and eerie, empty streets. Even the sea views are sad and overcast.

Little did I know these images would act as a precursor to something much worse - shortly after my return to the UK, Spain was devastated by the effects of the Covid pandemic.
